Women's Tennis Completes First Day of Singles Competition

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team finished its first day of singles competition at the 2002 Roberta Alison Fall Classic at the University of Alabama. Saturday's competition consisted of seven flights of singles matches.
In the first round of Flight "B" UAB's Natascha Immele lost to No. 3 seed Ani Longoni of the University of Houston, 7-6, 6-4. In Immele's second round match, she fell to Kelly Bucewicz of University of Louisiana-Monroe, 6-4, 6-4. On Sunday, Immele will face Kelly Taylor of Louisville in her final match of the tournament.
In the first round of Flight "D" UAB's Femke de Boer lost to No. 1 seed from Marlieke Jager of South Alabama, 6-2, 6-1. In second round action, de Boer rebounded to defeat Martina Janska of Auburn, 6-2, 6-0. On Sunday, de Boer takes on Megan McCoy of Arkansas State University.
UAB's Yvonne Ernst lost to No. 3 seed Carla Bruno of Auburn-Montgomery, 6-1, 6-2, in Flight "F". In Ernst's second round match, she was defeated by Erin Gray of Auburn, 6-3, 6-0. Ernst will take on Marusa Pogacnik of Arkansas State on Sunday.
In Flight "G", UAB's No. 1 seed Nadia Dellarciprete defeated Cassidy Shaw of Louisiana-Monroe, 6-0, 6-0. In second round action, Dellarciprete continued her hot play by defeating No. 3 seed Anne Keaton of Auburn, 6-1, 6-2. On Sunday, Dellarciprete will take on Julie Ferguson of Alabama.
