TAMPA - Freshman centerfielder Sara Christophel homered in the eighth inning to give the No. 3 Blazers a 2-1 upset over No. 2 Southern Miss in game nine of the C-USA Softball Tournament on Saturday at the USF Softball Complex.
Senior Megan Stephenson (16-11) picked up the win for the Blazers allowing one run off seven hits, striking out seven. Junior Kerri Foster came in for Stephenson in the eighth inning. Foster gave up one hit and struck out two.
"Today's game against Southern Miss was a total team effort highlighted by Megan and Sara," said Head Coach Marla Townsend. "Error free defense kept us in the game today."
In only their third year of softball, the Blazers advance to their first C-USA Championship game and will face No. 1 DePaul at 2 p.m. today.
