Softball Beats Charlotte in 10 Innings

Birmingham, Ala. - The Blazers (27-13, C-USA 7-5) beat the Charlotte 49ers (17-20 C-USA 2-9) this afternoon in the final game of the series, 1-0, in 10 innings.
Sophomore second baseman Beth Mullins (Fairhope, Ala.) reached first base in the bottom of the tenth inning on an error by Charlotte shortstop, Nora Petrie. Senior first baseman Kai Paul (Birmingham, Ala.) advanced Mullins to second with a sacrifice bunt. With one out, senior third baseman Aimee Vaughn (New Orleans, La.) singled to left field to bring Mullins in after an error by 49ers left fielder Lynne LaPorte, 1-0.
Leading the Blazers in today's game was Vaughn who went 2-4 with a RBI.
Senior Megan Stephenson (Washington, Ill.) recorded the win for the Blazers. Stephenson (9-6) went the distance throwing all ten innings, allowing only three hits. Stephenson also broke the record for strikeouts in a single game with 14.
The Blazers are up next this Thursday at Florida State for a doubleheader, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
