Women's Tennis Finishes Fourth at C-USA Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas -- It was a tough day for the UAB women's tennis team Sunday, as fifth-seeded Tulane took a 4-0 win on the final day of play at the Conference USA Championship.
The Blazers, usually solid in doubles play, had a tough start against the 64th-ranked Green Wave. Tulane's No. 2 tandem of Maria Ivanov and Joyce Bergman captured an 8-2 win over UAB's Natascha Immele and Sjouke Liem. At the No. 3 spot, UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete and Yvonne Ernst fell 8-5 to Lucy Wood and Anneli Axsater. UAB's Monika Schmid and Femke deBoer were leading 6-4 at the No. 1 spot before pulling the match when the Green Wave notched the doubles point.
In singles action, the Blazers fell at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 spots to give the Green Wave the 4-0 win. Immele fell 6-3, 6-0 to Julie Morris, Liem fell 7-5, 6-1 to Bergman and Dellarciprete fell 6-2, 6-2 to Wood.
The Blazers finished the tournament in fourth and the season with an 11-11 overall record and 4-1 in C-USA.
