FORT WORTH, Texas - With three match points, the UAB women's tennis team had it's chances to win, but fell short in the semifinals of the Conference USA Championship. The Blazers dropped a 4-1 decision to third-seeded Marquette Saturday morning at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
"It was closer than the score showed," said head coach Mert Ertunga "We had our chances to win with three match points, but the girls were a little flat after yesterday's incredible match."
The Blazers only point came at the No. 1 singles position as Monika Schmid captured a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Marqutte's Gen Charron. Schmid has led the team throughout the season with a 14-6 dual match record and is 3-0 at the Conference Tournament so far.
In doubles, UAB's Natascha Immele and Sjouke Liem notched an 8-5 win over Golden Eagle duo Veronica Briseno and Annabelle Espinosa.
UAB will vie for third place against Tulane at 9 a.m. Sunday.
