Baseball Falls To No. 3 Alabama Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Beau Hearod's three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning was the decisive blow and starting pitcher Jared Woodward allowed two runs in five complete innings
as third-ranked Alabama defeated UAB 5-3 Wednesday evening at Young
Memorial Field.

inning as leadoff hitter Scott
McClanahan drew a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt
by shortstop Adam Pavkovich, and
scored on a wild pitch by UAB starter Rusty
McIntyre that became lodged in home plate umpire Morris Hodges' protective gear.
UAB responded with a run in the bottom half of the first, as
center fielder Chad House led off
with an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by first baseman Matt Womble, and scored on designated
hitter Kyle Leon's RBI single.
The game remained tied 1-1 until the top of the fifth
inning.

Rollin led off with a triple to left field and scored on a groundout by
shortstop Mark Garner.
Woodward (3-1) allowed two earned runs on seven hits with
one walk and five strikeouts.
UAB's
Parks (1-7) pitched well for much of his two and 1/3 innings in relief, but
took the loss after allowing the three-run homer to Hearod. Parks allowed only one other hit on the evening
- a sngle to McClanahan.
