Women's Tennis Knocks Off Memphis, 4-2

BERMUDA - The UAB women's tennis team knocked off Conference USA foe Memphis Tuesday afternoon on their spring break trip in Bermuda.
In doubles, the Blazers started out strong winning two of three matches winning the first crusial first point. UAB's Natascha Immele and Sjouke Liem defeated Memphis' Sumitra Rao and Annika Westberg, 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. In the third spot, the Blazer duo of Nadia Dellarciprete and Yvonne Ernst upended the Tiger pair of Rebecca Garner and Laura Hughes, 8-1.
In singles, the bottom-half of the line-up proved to be the winner for the Blazers, taking wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
UAB sophomore Femke deBoer went down 4-6 in the first set to Memphis' Westberg, but battled back to take the second and third set 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Playing at No.4, UAB freshman Ernst tallied a win over Garner winning the first set 6-2, dropping the second set 3-6 and easily winning the third set tie-breaker 6-1.
In the No. 1 spot, senior Monika Schmid tallied her eighth win of the season defeating Sabrina Lindeman in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The Blazers will rest for a night before marching back on the courts to take on Cincinnati tomorrow in a 10 a.m. tilt.
