Women's Tennis Struggles in Loss to Houston

Houston, Texas - The UAB women's tennis team captured the doubles point early, but it wasn't quite enough as the Blazers fell 4-1 to Conference USA foe Houston Friday afternoon.
The Blazers took the early lead in the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots. Senior Monika Schmid (Seigsdorf, Germany) and sophomore Femke deBoer (Hazerwoude, Netherlands) improved to 5-0 on the season, notching a win at the No. 1 spot, while sophomore Nadia Dellarciprete (Danendong, Australia) and Yvonne Ernst (Freising, Germany) won at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, the Blazers suffered losses in the top four spots. At the No. 1 spot, Schmid fell to Houston's Sarah Borwell for her first loss of the season. Up until today, Schmid was a perfect 5-0 on the season.
The Blazers are now 1-5 overall and 1-1 in C-USA.
The Blazers will look to get back to their winning ways with a match-up against Southern Miss on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss.
