MOBILE - The UAB women's tennis team got some clutch play to claim the doubles point, and the Blazers (5-6) won three singles matches in taking a 4-2 win over Western Michigan Saturday afternoon at South Alabama.
The Blazer tandem of Yvonne Ernst and Nadia Dellarciprete saved match point against the Broncos' Nikki Douglass and Val Stoilova before claiming a 9-8 triumph to cinch the all-important doubles point. Earlier in the match, the Blazer duo of Monika Schmid and Femke deBoer got by WMU's Frederika Girsang and Brookley Crews 8-6 in No. 1 action.
In singles play, Schmid kept the momentum going with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Larissa Chinwah. The Broncos claimed points at the No. 2 and 3 spots, but the bottom of the Blazers' lineup came through.
DeBoer posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nikki Douglas, and Dellarciprete closed the match off with a three-set, come-from behind win over Stephanie Muller (1-6, 7-6, 6-3).
