Blazer Softball Announces Three NFCA All-American Scholar Athletes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Three UAB softball players have been named by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as All-American Scholar Athletes. The trio of Candice Hithe, Emily Scarbrough and Kris Lara will be recognized during halftime on Saturday at the UAB football game against ECU beginning at 2 p.m.
Hithe, a senior from Daphne, Ala. is majoring in health promotion and maintains a 3.55 GPA. Scarbrough, a junior from Ooltewah, Tenn. majoring in biology, has a 3.48 GPA. She is also a member of the UAB cross country team and will be competing in the NCAA Regional Meet in Maryville, Tenn. this weekend. Lara, a sophomore physical education major from Elk Grove, Cal. has a 3.6 GPA.
The UAB softball team had a team GPA of 3.07 for the 2001-2002 academic year.
The softball team will be signing autographs at Blazer Village immediately before the game on Saturday along with the UAB baseball team. Blazer Village opens at noon.
