Women's Tennis Team Wins Two Matches In Opening Day

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The UAB's women's tennis team completed its first day of competition at the 2002 Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational by winning two matches here Friday. Nadia Dellarciprete excelled, winning her opening round singles match and doubles match.
In Flight "C" singles, Nadia Dellarciprete defeated Jessie Mills of Austin Peay, 6-2, 6-2. Dellarciprete will face Marlene Dirnstorfer of Memphis on Saturday, while in Flight "B" doubles, the duo of Dellarciprete and Yvonne Ernst defeated Alyce Zollman and Laura Gerding from Ball State, 9-8 (3). Ernst and Dellarciprete will face Viktoria Gruber and Amanda McClure of Southern Miss on Saturday.
In Flight "A" singles, Natascha Immele fell to Jacksonville State's Sally Pearson, 7-5, 6-3. Immele will take on Elly Shearman of UT Martin on Saturday in the Consolation round. Femke deBoer was defeated by Leisa Brooks of Ball State in Flight "B" singles, 7-5, 6-1. deBoer will face Julie McDonald of Lipscomb in the Consolation round on Saturday.
Competition continues at Buick Bouldin Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.
