UAB's men's soccer team moved up two spots in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national rankings.
The Blazers defeated Coastal Carolina 2-0, Friday night in their regular season opener. They earlier tied No. 8 Indiana 3-3 in an exhibition match.
SMU claimed the top spot in the rankings.
UAB is ranked third in the South Region behind fourth-ranked North Carolina and ninth-ranked Wake Forest. Future UAB foe, Furman is fifth in the South Region.
Both UAB's men's and women's soccer teams host their own UAB Nike Classic Tournament, Friday through Sunday.
The men's play begins Saturday with Birmingham-Southern playing Florida Atlantic at 5 p.m. and UAB facing Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday with BSC against Pittsburgh at noon and UAB against Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m.
The women's action begins Friday at 5 p.m. with Mississippi State against TCU and UAB against Ole Miss at 7 p.m. Sunday at 10 a.m. TCU faces Ole Miss and UAB plays Mississippi State at 4 p.m.
Admission is $5 for per day.
