HOUSTON, Texas - Houston (22-31, 10-10 Conference USA) defeated UAB (26-33, 10-11 C-USA) 2-0 in Conference USA softball action at Cougar Softball Stadium.
Houston's runs came in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, center fielder Arelis Ferreris reached on a fielding error by shortstop Beth Mullins, allowing second baseman Leslie Seay and shortstop Ali McDougall to score.
Jenny Johnson (9-13) went six and two-thirds innings and got the win. Johnson gave up four hits, two walks and struck out four. Allison Thompson came on in relief in the top of the seventh, pitched a third of an inning, allowed no hits and one walk.
Kerri Foster (13-14) had a complete game for UAB and picked up the loss. Foster worked six innings, allowed two runs on four hits, one walk and struck out five.
The victory gave Houston two wins out of the three game series. In Saturday's doubleheader, UAB won the first game 6-4 and Houston took the second contest 3-0.
UAB next travels to the Conference USA Tournament in Louisville, Ky. on the campus of the University of Louisville. Play is set to begin Thursday.
