Vladulescu Receives Automatic Bid To Women's Tennis NCAA Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Twentieth-ranked Mirela Vladulescu of the UAB women's tennis team received an automatic bid to the singles portion of the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 21-26 in Stone Mountain, Ga. This is the third time Vladulescu will compete in the singles championship.
Vladulescu led the 74th-ranked Blazers to a 21-3 overall record and a second place finish in the Conference USA Tournament. For the third time in four years, she was named Conference USA Player of the Year and earned first team All-Conference USA for the fourth consecutive year.
Vladulescu compiled a 31-2 overall record and was 21-1 in dual match play at the No. 1 spot. The Liemen, Germany native went 5-1 against ranked players this season and was the highest-ranked player in the conference, reaching as high as No. 22. She was 25-5 this season in doubles play with partner Monika Schmid , and is currently ranked No. 45 in the doubles rankings. Her career record now stands at 115-16.
The individual singles championship consists of 64 players. The seeds for the individual championship will be announced Saturday, May 19.
