Men's Soccer Signs Two

Forward Jarbas Carlos and midfielder Rogerio Oliveira, both of Bryan, Texas, have signed a national letter of intent with the UAB men's soccer program.

Both have lived in Bryan the past six years after moving from Brazil. They were members of the Austin Capital Soccer Club that won the Texas state championship and both were members of the Texas Olympic Development Program team from 1996-99.

"Jarbas has great skill and great speed," Blazer head coach Mike Getman said. He is going to make an immediate impact on our team. I believe Jarbas is one of the top five high school players in the country." Carlos was the Most Valuable Player of the 1998 Tampa Sun Bowl Tournament.

As for Oliveira, Getman said "He is very strong with his technique and has great vision on the field. He can also help us right away."

The Blazers are coming off a 15-5-2 season in which they advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
