DePaul Defeats UAB Softball 5-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Eighth-ranked DePaul (29-7-1, 9-0 Conference USA) kept its Conference USA unbeaten streak alive and extended its overall winning streak to 15 games by defeating UAB (19-24, 3-6 Conference USA) 5-0 in C-USA softball action at George Ward Park.
DePaul got on top in the top of the first inning when catcher Gina Ramacci doubled to left center, scoring right fielder Shavaughne Desecki.
The Blue Demons struck again in the top of the third inning. Second baseman Christina Douglas scored on shortstop Liz Bouck's steal of second base. Ramacci then singled to the left side and advanced Bouck to third. Ramacci stole second, allowing Bouck to score on the throw. Center fielder Dana Jakusz followed with a single to left field, scoring Ramacci.
DePaul's final run came in the top of the sixth when designated player Lindsay Chouinard grounded out to second base, allowing Jakusz to score.
Chouinard (13-4) went four innings for the Blue Demons and got the victory. She gave up three hits, no walks and struck out two. Sarah Martz came on in relief in the top of the fifth inning and picked up the save. Martz pitched three innings, allowed one hit, no walks and struck out two.
Kelli Thompson (8-13) went the distance for the Blazers and picked up the loss. Thompson allowed four earned runs on 10 hits, walked three and struck out one.
DePaul swept the weekend series against the Blazers, winning both games of a doubleheader Saturday. The Blue Demons won the first game 3-0 in nine innings and won the second contest 9-0.
The Blazers next travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. Wednesday to face Middle Tennessee in a double header, starting at 3 p.m.
