Women's Tennis Advances to C-USA Championship Match

Top seeded UAB won four of five singles matches to defeat Marquette 4-2 and advance to the finals of the Conference USA Tennis Championships in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Blazers (21-2) will face second-seeded Tulane, Sunday at noon. Tulane defeated South Florida 4-1 in the other semi-final match.
UAB lost the number one and two doubles matches to give Marquette that point. However, the Lady Blazers won at number one, two, four and five singles matches to gain the victory.
Mirela Vladulescu ran her spring singles record to 21-1 by defeating Laura Garcia 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Vladulescu is ranked 22nd nationally and Garcia, 71st.
Monika Schmid beat the Eagles Genevieve Charron 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Natascha Immele won at No. 4, 7-5, 6-3 over Anabelle Espinoza. Femke deBoer beat Marquette's Anna Pavlovic 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5.
It was the fourth straight win for the Blazers. They are attempting to win their second C-USA title. UAB won the championship in 1996.
