BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Nick Clark drove in a pair of runs and three Blazer pitchers combined on a shutout as UAB defeated Memphis 2-0 here Saturday afternoon in Conference USA baseball action at Young Memorial Field.
The Blazers (21-19 overall, 4-13 in C-USA) got on the board first in the second as Clark drove in the game's first run with a double that went half way up the 40-foot centerfield wall. Clark added UAB's other run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
Meanwhile, Andre Parks (4-0) was keeping the Tigers (23-16, 9-8) at bay for seven innings by scattering five hits and five walks while fanning four to notch the win.
Clay Bush and Blake Allen each held the Tigers scoreless with an inning of work apiece and Allen tallied his fourth save. The save, though, was not easy as Memphis had two runners on with two outs in the ninth and Daniel Uggla at the plate.
Uggla, who smashed a game-winning home run in Friday night's game, could not replicate his feat from the day before and popped out to first to end the game.
Ryan O'Malley (4-2) limited the Blazers to four hits and a walk, but did surrender a pair of runs with five strikeouts to suffer the loss.
The two teams will complete the series with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday.
