Women's Tennis Wins First Match at C-USA Championshiops

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The top-seeded UAB women's tennis team waked to an easy 4-0 win over Memphis in the second round of the Conference USA Championships in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Blazers, who earned a first round bye, will play Marquette, Saturday at noon in the semi-finals. Marquette defeated Houston 4-2 in its second round match.
The Blazers' Mirela Vladuescu, ranked No. 22 in the nation, defeated Christina Ladyman 6-3, 6-2. Natashca Immele beat the Tiger's Sumitra Rao at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3. At No. 6, Tanja Pflugfelder beat Rebecca Garner 6-1, 6-1.
The Blazers also took two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Vladulecsu and Monika Schmid won 8-5 at No. 1, and Natascha Immele and Pflugfelder won 8-4 at the No. 3 doubles.
Three of the singles matches and one of the double matches were called when UAB clinched the win. The Blazers were leading in all four.
The championship match will be held Sunday afternoon.
