UAB Softball Defeats Chattanooga 4-3

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - UAB outfielder Cliffanie Engram drove in three runs, two of which came on a fourth-inning home run as the Blazers held on to defeat host Chattanooga (12-8) in the Frost Cutlery Tournament.
Engram went three for four in the game, with an RBI double in the first inning as well as a single and the game-winning homer. Starting pitcher Kelli Thompson worked five innings, allowing one run and also contributed an RBI single in the first inning.
Kerri Foster, who got the win earlier in the day vs. Jacksonville State, came on to work two innings vs. the Mocs, earning her first save of the season.
UAB (8-10) will play Jacksonville State Saturday at 12 noon EST, and will face 15th-ranked Notre Dame Saturday at 3:00 pm EST.
In the earlier game vs. Jacksonville State, UAB's Foster (4-4) pitched a complete game, striking out four batters as the Blazers defeated the Gamecocks (7-4) 3-1.
UAB scored a pair of runs in the first inning, one on an error and one on an RBI single by designated player Thompson.
The Blazers added an insurance run in the fifth inning as Jessica Brown tripled and later scored on another JSU error.
Tara Ross (2-1) was the losing pitcher for Jacksonville State.
