UAB Softball Defeats Colgate

CLEARWATER, Fla. - UAB left fielder Jessica Brown drove in the winning runs with a two-out, two-RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning as the Blazers rallied to defeat Colgate 2-1 Friday afternoon at the USF/Clearwater Parks and Recreation Tournament.
UAB (15-14) entered the final inning trailing 1-0. With two outs, catcher Amanda Ellis drew a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Emily Scarbrough. Shortstop Candace Hithe then singled, advancing Scarbrough to second base. Brown then drove in both runners with a triple to give UAB the lead.
UAB starting pitcher Kelli Thompson then retired Colgate in order in the bottom of the seventh, striking out the last two batters. Thompson (7-6) worked seven complete innings, allowing one run on four hits, with no walks and six strikeouts.
Colgate reliever Beth Hass (4-2) worked the final three innings, and allowed the two UAB runs.
Colgate (7-6) scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning as shortstop Rachel Smith drove in right fielder Emily Wright with an RBI single off Thompson.
UAB (15-14) was scheduled to play 20th-ranked Texas A&M at 2:00 pm EST
