Three Women's Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Honors

MILWAUKEE- Senior forward Denise Peters , freshman defender Briana McCarty and junior forward Adrienne Suffridge earned women's soccer All-Conference USA honors announced Tuesday at the annual C-USA pre-tournament banquet at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center.
Named to the C-USA Preseason All-Conference team, UAB's team captain, Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) finished out an outstanding regular season and was named First Team All-C-USA. After leading UAB in goals during the regular seasonwith eight, Peters has garnered 23 goals in her career, ranking her third on the UAB career goals list. Peters added three assists during the season for a team-leading 19 points. She had a season-high six shots in games against Mercer and South Florida, bringing her total to 117, ranking her second on the all-time UAB career shots list. In C-USA play, Peters ranks fourth in shots with 28, fifth in points with 12 and sixth in goals with 10.
After leading the Blazers in assists with nine, McCarty (Lawrenceville, Ga.) earned Second-Team All-Conference and All-Freshman Team honors. After only one season at UAB, McCarty ranks ninth on the all-time UAB career assits list and is on pace to take over the no. 1 spot set by Monica Bagley (1996-99) with 25. Her top performance of the season came last week against South Florida as her two assists paced the Blazers to a 3-1 win. She ranks second in C-USA in overall assists with nine and conference games with eight.
Named Third-Team All-C-USA, Suffridge (Columbia, S.C.) has six goals and six assists, ranking her second with 18 points, one behind Peters. She had a season-high four points and two goals in the Blazers 3-1 win over Memphis. She recorded five shots in games against DePaul and Creighton and has a total of 39 on the season. In C-USA play, McCarty ranks sixth in shots with 27 and sixth in shots per game with 2.70. She leads C-USA in game-winning goals with five and has tied the team leading career record of 7 set by Ashley Cobb (1996-98).
Fifth seeded UAB (10-8-0, 7-3-0) will play fourth seeded Tulane (9-7-0, 7-3-0) Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in first round action of the C-USA tournament. Other matches feature top-seeded Cincinnati (15-3-0, 10-0-0) and eighth-seeded Saint Louis (8-9-1, 5-4-1) at 12 p.m., third-seeded Charlotte (9-6-3, 7-2-1) and sixth-seeded East Carolina (10-8-0, 6-4-0) at 5 p.m. and second-seeded Marquette (14-4-0, 8-2-0) and seventh-seeded Houston (8-8-1, 6-4-0) at 7:30 p.m. Semifinals will be held Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the final slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The final will be shown on the Conference USA Television Network.
