Men's Soccer Shuts Out Ninth-Ranked South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. - Senior forward Martin Rey (Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored two goals as the eighth-ranked UAB men's soccer team shut out ninth-ranked South Florida in C-USA action 3-0 late Friday night. The loss was the first this season for the Bulls.
With the win, UAB improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in C-USA, while the Bulls dropped to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in C-USA
At the 28:46 mark, UAB's Rey started the scoring with an unassisted goal. The Blazers would hold the 1-0 score until half-time.
The Blazers added two goals in the second half as Rey scored his sixth goal of the season at the 52:00 mark as Jonathan Weimer (Hoover, Ala.) captured the assist. Mike Garcia (Bellaire, Texas) scored his first goal of the season in the 62nd minute as the Blazers finished the match with a 3-0 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Clint Baumstark (Thorton, Col.) garnered four assists during the match and improved to 7-1 on the season.
The Blazers return home on Sunday as they host Alabama A&M at 3:00 p.m. at West Campus Field. The match is the second game of a double-header with the women's team who takes on Louisville at 1:00 p.m.
