NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Monika Schmid of the UAB women's tennis team won the Flight A singles at the June Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt Sunday afternoon.

The Siegsdorf, Germany native defeated Gretchen Hayner of Purdue 7-6, 6-1 in the finals. Earlier in the weekend, Schmid defeated Vanderbilt's Sarah Riske 6-1, 6-1 and Marquette's Jessica Johnson 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the finals.

The UAB women's tennis team will be back in action as they travel to Mobile, Ala. Oct. 26-29 for the ITA South Regionals.
