Knight Goal Gives UAB 3-2 OT Win Over Mercer

Lane Knight broke away on a pass from Bubba Garcia and scored the winning goal in the second overtime as UAB defeated Mercer 3-2 in Macon, Ga., Wednesday afternoon.
It was the first win outside of Birmingham for the Blazers who upped their record to 6-3-1. Mercer fell to 5-4-1 with the loss.
Knight's goal came in the 11th minute of the match. The two teams were tied 1-1 at the half and 2-2 at the end of regulation.
Jose Rayo, making his first start of the season, got the Blazers on the board first with a breakaway in the 34th minute. Mercer tied the score on a penalty kick by Neil Zarac at 42:58.
Mercer struck first in the second half with Coleman Duckworth scoring on a header at the 59:58 mark. Jermie Ferguson tied it in the 67th minute on a header from a Mike Garcia throw-in.
UAB outshot Mercer 17-8. UAB goalkeeper David Clemente and Mercer goalkeeper Lucio Filho recorded five saves each.
The Blazers are in the midst of four games in eight days. They travel to face 14th ranked Furman, Sunday afternoon in Greenville, S.C.
