She was vital in the team going 12-12 in the 2017-2018 season, matching the highest total for wins since she was a player in 2013. She helped recruit, mentor, and integrate five new players to this year's team, including four freshmen, that more than doubled last year's win total and equaled the win total for the past two years.
During the 2017-2018 season, she helped oversee the rapid improvement of sophomore Marlene Herrmann, who was selected to Second Team All-Conference USA for going 15-4 and 4-0 in conference. Overall, she helped the team win nine out of their final 10 matches and guided the team to wins over teams higher ranked teams, while eight of the team’s 12 losses came to teams currently in the top-100.
During the 2016-2017 season, she mentored and coached Pardis Kianoush to First Team All-Conference USA honors, which was the first time the program had a first team selection since 2002. In the past 10 years, only four UAB players had ever garnered All-Conference honors, two of which came under Witkowski’s tutelage.
Her devotion to community service has set a great example to the team, helping the squad rank No. 1 in the nation in community service for women's tennis teams according to NCAA Teamworks. UAB finished second in 2017-18 with 288 community service hours. The team was also awarded the ITA Community Service and Outreach Award in 2017-18.
In addition to assisting in all aspects of our program including team practices, individual lessons, recruiting, and mentoring, she also helped the Blazers raise over $10,000 this year in donations from boosters, which is vital to a mid-major programs. Her mentorship has undoubtedly helped the culture of academic excellence, which has allowed the team to win the highest team GPA at UAB in 2016-17 (3.75) and in 2017-18 (3.64).
