Head Coach Bill Clark named Cameron Blankenship as UAB’s offensive line coach in February of 2022. Blankenship in his first season as the offensive line coach and has been with the program since 2016.
A three-year starter on the offensive line for the Blazers from 2012-14, Blankenship played his final year of football at South Alabama after UAB’s program was shut down, then returned to the Southside in 2016 to help rebuild the team as an assistant strength coach.
Blankenship has been a part of the UAB program that has won 43 games since returning to action in 2017, which is the most of any team in Conference USA during that span. The Blazers have won two Conference USA Championship and two bowl games during that span.
A native of Alexander City, Ala., Blankenship has assisted in the development of the offensive line since 2016 which has produced 11 All-Conference USA players, highlighted by two-time First Team All-Conference USA selection Colby Ragland.
Last season in 2021, the Blazers produced five All-Conference USA players: Ragland, Matthew Trehern, Kadeem Telfort, Andrew Smith Jr. and Trey Bedosky. This unit blocked for DeWayne McBride who ran for 1,371 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 1,371 rushing yards were the fourth most in a single season at UAB and his 13 touchdowns were the second most.
Overall, UAB has averaged over 200 rushing yards per game each of the last two years and UAB’s offensive line ranked fourth nationally in 2020 after allowing just four sacks all season long.
Blankenship and his wife Laura have one son, Freddie.
