Former UAB men[apos]s soccer player Trey Gregory enters his first season in his new role as a volunteer assistant coach with the UAB men[apos]s soccer program.
Gregory[apos]s duties include day-to-day duties in the office and assisting on the practice field whenever needeed.
'Trey was a great player for us and he will be a great asset to our program,' UAB head coach Mike Getman said. 'I fully expect him to contribute and help teach the players what it takes to become successful.'
'I[apos]m real excited to be back here and part of the team,' Gregory said. 'It[apos]s great to work with the guys because I have been a part of it and know what they are going through. I am looking forward to helping build on an already terrific soccer program.'
Gregory was a four-year letterwinner for the Blazers from 2005-08. During his time on the pitch, he twice earned all-conference honors (2007 and 2008). The Birmingham, Ala. native finished his career playing in 60 contest, while making 45 starts.
As a freshman (2005), Gregory was named the team[apos]s most improved player. He would finish his Blazer career with five goals and five assists for 15 points.
After graduating in 2010, Gregory began coaching at the Birmingham United Soccer Associate (BUSA), primarily working with the U-10s and U-11s.
Gregory is currently coaching at the Hoover Soccer Club, and is the head coach of a U-12 and U-14 team.
Gregory graduated from UAB with a degree in philosophy in 2010. He returned to school to pursue his teaching certificate in 2011.
