BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – UAB women's soccer (1-1-1) used a strong second-half performance and a goal from Lailah Stewart to battle back for a 1-1 draw against Western Kentucky (1-0-2) on Thursday night at the WKU Soccer Complex.

The Blazers trailed 1-0 at halftime before controlling much of the action after the break. UAB outshot WKU 10-3 in the second half and found the equalizer in the 72^nd minute when Stewart scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Sydney Bolinger.

WKU opened the scoring in the 15^th minute. April McDonald put the Hilltoppers in front off an assist from Georgia Liapis. UAB goalkeeper Macie Murphy, who made her collegiate debut in goal, made two first-half saves to keep the Blazers within one heading into the break.

UAB came out aggressively in the second half, putting three consecutive shots on goal in a span of less than a minute. Maia Sirota, Avery Berryman and Lola Sommer each forced saves from WKU goalkeeper Mia Riddick. Lauren Lucero added another shot on target in the 66^th minute as the Blazers continued to apply pressure.

The pressure paid off at the 72:23 mark. Following a UAB corner kick, Stewart found the back of the net with Bolinger picking up the assist to even the match at 1-1.

UAB continued to push for the game-winner over the final 18 minutes. Ava Mills and Berryman each had attempts blocked, while Morgan Goehring put a shot on frame in the 82^nd minute that was saved. The Blazers also earned two additional corner kicks down the stretch but were unable to break the tie.

UAB finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Riddick made seven saves for WKU, while Murphy finished with three saves for the Blazers. UAB held 53 percent of the possession and committed just three fouls compared to eight for the Hilltoppers.

Up next, the Blazers are back at home to host Ole Miss on Sunday, August 23. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
