UAB Men's Soccer Draws Lipscomb 1-1 in Season Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team battled back from a second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Lipscomb Thursday night at PNC Field.
After a scoreless first half, Lipscomb's Mateo Secaira broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, giving the Bisons a 1-0 advantage. UAB responded with sustained pressure throughout the second half before Lucas Nordin found the back of the net in the 71st minute to level the match. He scored an incredible goal that was upper nine from just inside the 18 yard box.
Nordin's goal came at the 70:34 mark, with Gael Zackrisson providing the assist. The goal marked the first of the season for Nordin and capped a strong offensive push from the Blazers.
UAB dominated the shot battle in the second half, recording 14 shots compared to just three for Lipscomb. The Blazers finished the night with a 15-6 advantage in total shots and held a 59-41 edge in possession.
The Blazers created several opportunities after falling behind. Ole Jessen recorded three shots in a span of just over two minutes, while Rylie Siddall, Alan Melendez, Tony Kim and others helped keep pressure on the Lipscomb defense.
UAB goalkeeper Ethan Schulz played all 90 minutes in his season debut. Lipscomb goalkeeper Alex Kara recorded one save, while Schulz was not credited with a save.
Tobias Misael Sosa received a second yellow card in the 81 minute sending Lipscomb down to 10 men for the remaining nine minutes of the match.
The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday night August 25 against Georgia State. The match at PNC Field is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
