UAB Opens 2026 Season with 4-2 Victory Over Georgia State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer opened the 2026 season with a 4-2 victory over Georgia State on Wednesday night at PNC Field. The Blazers scored twice in each half and outshot the Panthers 18-12 to begin the season 1-0.

Morgan Goehring, Emily Cole, Lailah Stewart and Avery Berryman each found the back of the net for UAB. Berryman added an assist, while Vita Naihin and goalkeeper Leah Parsons also recorded assists. Parsons made four saves in the victory.

UAB struck first in the 20th minute when Berryman set up Goehring for the Blazers' first goal of the season, giving UAB a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Goehring's first goal with the Blazers.

The Blazers doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later. Cole, who entered the match in the 25^th minute, scored in the 29^th minute for her first collegiate goal off an assist from Naihin to make it 2-0.

Georgia State responded with two goals in a span of 21 seconds late in the opening half. Aaliyah Faddoul converted a penalty kick in the 42^nd minute before assisting Brielle Delgado's equalizer in the 43^rd minute, sending the match into halftime tied at 2-2.

UAB controlled the attack for much of the second half, producing 12 shots after halftime compared to four for the Panthers. The Blazers finally broke the tie in the 73^rd minute when Stewart scored off an assist from Parsons to put UAB back in front, 3-2. Berryman added the final goal at 79^th minute to give the Blazers a two-goal cushion and secure the 4-2 season-opening victory.
