HOUSTON, TX – UAB Baseball (28-19, 12-9) dropped the series finale on the road at Rice (29-20, 11-10) on Sunday by a score of 10-3 as the Owls completed the sweep.
For the third time in the series, the Blazers plated a single run to get on the board first, and the second time in their first frame of the game. Kevin Hall Jr. was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Rice error to give UAB a 1-0 lead.
Beginning in the bottom of the second, the Owls would combine for seven runs over their next two frames. Small ball played into Rice's favor as it laid down three bunts in the inning, two for hits and a sacrifice. The Owls would plate three runs in the inning without recording an extra base hit.
Four more runs crossed for Rice in the bottom of the third. The first five hitters reached via a base hit in the inning resulting in three runs. The final run of the inning scored on a Colin Robson bunt single to bring in JC Davis to inflate Rice's lead to 7-1.
The Owls plated three more in the bottom of the fourth. After the first two hitters of the inning reached, a sac bunt pushed them both into scoring position. JC Davis singled both runners home and Lorenzo Rios scored Davis on a single to up the Owls' lead to 10-1.
