UAB Heads to Baton Rouge and Samford This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field will once again split up this weekend as the Blazers' throwers, jumpers, vaulters will compete in the Josh Reidinger Invitational hosted by Samford on Friday. UAB will take its sprinters and distance runners to LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge on Saturday.
SAMFORD
The squad is set for a packed day of competition, beginning at 11 a.m. with the hammer throw, where Bailey Baker, Sarah Hopkins, and Laney Webb will start it off for the Green and Gold. Action resumes at 1 p.m. in the triple jump with Madison Cameron and Mikayla Williams, followed by Hope Foster and Hannah-Sophie Pippel competing in the javelin throw at 2:30 p.m.
Field events continue at 3 p.m. as Bailey Baker and Kristen Cass represent in the discus, while Madison Cameron and Mikayla Williams return to action in the long jump at 3:30 p.m. On the track, Ava Brooks and Kyra Hayes will compete in the 3000m steeplechase at the same time.
The pole vault squad, consisting of Fiona Eastman, Trinity Fellows, Victoria Freeland, Noelle Hambrick, and Alana McCulla, will compete at 4:30 p.m., just ahead of Taylor Washington in the 100m hurdles at 4:35 p.m.
At 5 p.m., Hope Foster will take on the high jump while Kristen Cass and Laney Webb compete in the shot put. The day wraps up on the track at 5:10 p.m. with Daniela Delgado in the 800 meters.
LSU
Saturday's action in Baton Rouge begins at 12:30 p.m. with Team A opening the day in the 4x100-meter relay. Kenlie Nelson follows at 12:50 p.m. in the 1500 meters.
Sprint action heats up at 2:05 p.m. as Jordyn Dortch competes in the 100 meters, before Emma Kate Alexander, Lia Castillo, and Kelly Hughes take on the 800 meters at 2:40 p.m.
At 3 p.m., Jasmine Dereje will represent in the 400-meter hurdles, leading into a distance-heavy stretch at 3:50 p.m. where Kylie Gero, Savannah Meyer, and Kaitlyn Wende line up for the 3000 meters.
The day concludes at 4:20 p.m. with Team A returning to the track for the 4x400-meter relay.
THIS TIME LAST WEEK
UAB Track & Field had four participants in the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Thursday and Friday. Kelly Hughes finished fourth in Heat 2 of the 800m with a time of 2:14.87. Lia Castillo finished her 800m race with a time of 2:11.04.
Kenlie Nelson finished ninth of 26 runners in the 5000m race on Thursday night. Nelson's time of 17:13.87 was her personal best time.
Lia Castillo came back on Friday and finished fourth in the 1500m. Castillo finished with a time of 4:38.21.
