COLUMBIA, S.C. - UAB Softball completed the weekend sweep over Marist with a 9-0 win in five innings, heading home with a 4-1 weekend record in Columbia. UAB earned its third run-rule win of the weekend, all with double-digit hits. The Blazers took advantage of four Marist errors, key to a big three-run play in the bottom of the first inning.
A five-run first inning powered the Blazers to the win. Ashlyn Shirah started the scoring with a two-run single to the right field gap. Then a fielder's choice with three Marist errors allowed the Blazers to score three. A pair of RBI singles and a couple of bases-loaded walks drove in enough runs to get the Blazers over the eight-run run-rule mark.
Four Blazers tallied a pair of hits, including Hannah Dorsett, Charlee Bennett, Ashlyn Shirah, and Hannah Miles. Dorsett's 2-for-4 performance meant she finished the weekend 10-for-19. Bennett also continued her great weekend, drawing her sixth walk of the weekend, reaching base three times in the game.
Tait Davidson tossed her best outing of the year, allowing just two hits in four complete innings. Zaylen Tucker closed the game with her first career pitching appearance.
