UAB Wins at Home Over Rice

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The UAB Men's Basketball team (15-9, 6-5 American) beat Rice (10-14, 4-7 American) 71-65 on Sunday afternoon for their first home conference win of the season. Three Blazers scored in double-digits against Rice, including Chance Westry who led the team with 22 points and nine rebounds. Evan Chatman had 10 points and a career high of 17 rebounds.
Rice was led by Trae Broadnax who scored 15 points and recorded five rebounds. The team as a whole shot 8-of-28 from three.

- Rivera made his 200th free throw of his career.
- Quaran McPhearson surpassed 400 career points after his three-point shot in the first half.
- Evan Chatman grabbed 17 rebounds (career high) including his 200th career rebound. 10+ rebounds for the 8th time this season.
- Daniel Rivera recorded 10+ points for the 15th time this season.
- Jacob Meyer reached 2,300 career minutes played, while Chance Westry surpassed the 800-minute mark.
- Blazers are on the way to reach 2,000 season team points; they are currently at (1,953) points.

- Four out of five UAB possessions ended with a Daniel Rivera dunk starting at the 5:21 mark [32-33]. UAB went on a 8-2 run the last 3:20 to take the lead into the half for the first lead since 11:39 [34-33].
- Consecutive 7-0 runs started the second half with Anderson hitting a three to extend the UAB lead to six points [41-35]. Rice came right back and took the lead with a 7-0 run [41-42].
- In a game of runs, Rice went on another important one (11-3) to extend the Rice lead [45-53].
- UAB went on a 7-0 run to take the lead back 56-55 at the under eight timeout.
- Jalen Smith hit a three to give Rice a 60-61 lead with under five minutes to play.
- UAB scored the next nine points to put this one away and extend the lead to eight on a Daniel Rivera dunk [69-61].
- Final score: UAB 71, Rice 65
