Seniors Shine at Green and Gold Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field completed the first half of the weekend on Friday as the Blazers competed in the Green and Gold Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The day was highlighted by Victory George's first place finish in the Long Jump. The senior notched her season-best jump coming in at 5.82m. Additionally, George qualified for the finals in the 60m dash where she finished in 7.71 seconds after she ran the 60m prelims in 7.70 seconds.
Leticia Quingostas had a strong finish in the 400m dash. The senior finished in 56.52 seconds and placed third overall in the event and second in Heat 2.
Lia Castillo secured a top-5 finish in the 800m race. Castillo finished fourth in Heat 1 and fifth overall in the race with a time of 2:14.83. Kelly Hughes finished eighth overall and Emma Kate Alexander finished 14th in their 800m college debuts.
Ava Brooks notched her personal best in the 1 Mile race on Friday. The senior finished in eighth place overall with a time of 5:12.98.
Brenna Dutcher had her best day since the Blazer Invitational as the true freshman recorded her career-best throw coming in with a mark of 11.62m.
To cap off the day, Mikayla Williams qualified for the finals in the Triple Jump where she placed fourth out of 26 participants.
The Blazers return to the Birmingham Crossplex Saturday morning to compete in the UAB Invitational. Action is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. The Blazer Pole Vaulters kick off the day for UAB at 10 a.m.
