Blazers Cap Weekend With Eight Personal Bests, Multiple Top 10 Finishes

BIRMINGHAM – The youth of the UAB Track & Field team shined as two true freshmen etched their names in the school record books on Saturday in the UAB Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex. Kelly Hughes (600m) and Fiona Eastman (Pole Vault) each entered the top 10 in school history in their respective events.
Hughes kicked off the day for the Blazers in the 600m where she finished in 1:35.87 and placed fourth overall in the event. Hughes' time currently ranks 3rd-best in school history.
Hughes was joined by fellow freshman Katelyn Valtos who recorded her personal best in the race. Valtos finished in 1:38.64 which was good for 8th-best on the day.
Eastman eclipsed her personal best for the third consecutive meet on Saturday as she took home the crown in the event. Eastman's mark of 3.77m ranks 4th-best in school history.
Eastman was joined by fellow Blazers Noelle Hambrick and Trinity Fellows in the top-6 of the event. Hambrick finished fourth with a mark of 3.67m and Fellows placed sixth with a mark of 3.47m.
Jordyn Dortch was tied for eighth in the 60m Prelims. Dortch ran a season-best 7.70 and ran a 7.74 in the run-off. Dortch finished her day by claiming the 4th-best Indoor 200m time in school history. Dortch completed the 200m dash in 24.69 which is her season-best.
Kyra Hayes capped off the day with a sixth place finish in the 3000m race, completing the race in 10:28.19.

The Green and Gold finished the weekend with eight personal bests.
The Blazers' next meet takes them to SEC Country as UAB takes part in the Music City Invite hosted by Vanderbilt. Friday's action is tentatively set to begin at 10 a.m. while Saturday will start at 8:30 a.m.
