Blazers Fall at Home to East Carolina

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball (7-13, 0-8 American) fell to East Carolina (15-6, 7-1 American) 87-61 on Saturday morning at Bartow Arena.
Sofia Munoz led the Blazers with 19 points while Cali Smallwood registered 13 points. Monae' Duffy came away with 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
The Pirates were led by Anzhane' Hutton with 21 points. Keanna Rembert and Jayla Hearp each tallied 17 points.

- East Carolina answered with strong interior play and offensive rebounds [15-11].
- A late 12-0 ECU run capped by transition baskets and a three, pushed the Pirates ahead [23-11].
- East Carolina closed the quarter with an eight-point lead [23-15].
- UAB settled in and matched the Pirates scoring, trading baskets for much of the period [29-20].
- The Blazers cut the deficit to as few as five behind Smallwood and Munoz [29-24].
- The rest of the frame went back-and-forth and UAB trailed by five again [33-28].
- UAB outscored East Carolina 15-14, sending the Pirates into halftime with a seven-point lead [37-30].
- East Carolina opened the half with aggressive rebounding and scoring to extend the lead [44-30].
- Midway through the frame, the game went back-and-forth and UAB closed the deficit to 11 [46-35].
- In the third, ECU hit five threes with the last one giving them a 21-point lead [62-41].
- UAB closed the frame with five straight points and ECU with two free throws [64-46].
- The Pirates controlled tempo and spacing, building the lead past 20 [78-56].
- UAB found some offense but couldn't string together stops and ECU closed the game with a win [87-61].
