WICHITA, Kan. – UAB women's basketball (8-13, 1-8 American) put together a complete performance at Wichita State (5-17, 2-7 American) to earn its first conference win, 83-65, on Saturday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.

Cali Smallwood led the Blazers for the seventh time this season with 25 points. Sofia Munoz registered 14 points while Molly Moffitt came away with 10 points and seven rebounds. Monae' Duffy led UAB with 16 rebounds.

The Shockers were led by Abby Cater with 13 points and Treasure Thompson followed behind with 12 points. Tay Davis totaled 11 points while Jaida McDonald had 10.

Game Notes

Smallwood collected 20-plus points for the fourth time this season, leading the Blazers with 25 points.
Smallwood was 7-of-12 from the three, which is a career-high, and went 8-for-13 from the field.
Duffy led the Green and Gold with 16 rebounds and collected double-digit rebounds for the seventh time this year.
Duffy matched her career-high three assists for the fourth time and added nine points to the stat sheet.
Jordan Rosier registered a season-high nine points and three three-pointers.
UAB outscored Wichita State 50-32 across the second and third quarters combined.
The Blazers led for 32:38 of the game and pushed the lead to as high as 23 points.
During the game there was seven lead changes and two tied scores which came in the first and second quarter.
The rebounding was even with each team pulling down 39.
UAB shot 54 percent from the field, 55 percent from the three and 72 percent at the line.
The Shockers shot 36 percent from the paint, 24 percent from the perimeter and 69 percent at the free throw line.
The Green and Gold scored 30 points in the paint, 17 bench points, and 12 second chance points.
UAB forced 11 Wichita State turnovers, scoring 16 points off them.

How It Happened

Wichita State jumped out early, but UAB answered with strong perimeter shooting [13-13].
Smallwood knocked down multiple threes to keep the Blazers within striking distance and take back the lead [19-15].
The Blazers built the lead to four, but the Shockers knocked down a three to trail by one at the end of the first [19-18].
UAB used an 11-0 run midway through the second quarter to flip the momentum [31-23].
Smallwood, Moffitt, Rosier and Eleecia Carter connected to keep the Blazers lead [41-31].
The Blazers shot 69 percent to take the lead into halftime [44-33].
UAB came out of the half aggressive, scoring on its first two possessions to extend the lead [49-35].
Munoz finished through contact and hit pull-up jumpers to pace the offense [50-35].
Back-to-back threes from Rosier pushed the lead to 20 [68-48].
UAB outscored Wichita State 25-17 in the quarter to build a commanding advantage [69-50].
The Blazers maintained control with disciplined offense and defensive rebounds [77-56].
Journey Armstead gave the Green and Gold its biggest lead of the game at 23 with 1:01 remaining in the game [83-60].
UAB limited second-chance opportunities and closed out the game comfortably [83-65].
