BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball (7-9, 0-4 American) fell to Florida Atlantic (7-9, 1-3 American) 70-63 on Saturday afternoon at Bartow Arena.

Four players recorded double digit points against the Owls. Sofia Munoz led the Blazers with 16 points. Molly Moffitt followed behind with 15 points and nine rebounds. Eleecia Carter totaled 11 points while Cali Smallwood came away with 10 points.

Vivian Onugha led Florida Atlantic with 15 points while Grace Carstensen tallied 12 points. Madi Gewirtz and Zahira Arizmendi each registered 10 points.

Game Notes

Moffitt led UAB with nine rebounds, six of which were offensive and marks a career-high for the senior.
Moffitt's nine rebounds matched her season-high for the third time.
Munoz added 16 points and helped spark UAB's third quarter surge to cut the deficit to five.
The Blazers forced 21 FAU turnovers, converting several into transition scoring chances.
The Green and Gold scored 22 points off the Owls turnovers.
UAB battled on the glass (20 rebounds) and stayed within single digits for a majority of the second half.
The Blazers matched FAU in points in the paint with UAB scoring 28 and FAU 34.
FAU shot 41 percent from the paint, 33 percent from beyond the arc and 62 percent at the line.
UAB was 40 percent in the paint and 55 percent from the free throw line.

How It Happened

The Blazers jumped to an early lead behind strong interior play from Moffitt [8-5].
Florida Atlantic was able to answer back to regain momentum and trial by one [11-10].
Both teams traded baskets for much of the period with four lead changes and three tied scores, with the last tied score coming late in the quarter [17-17].
The Owls were able to take the lead and carry it till the end of the frame [19-17].
FAU opened the period with a 9-2 run carried over from the first, stretching the lead to seven [24-17].
Each team went back and forth, and the Blazers got within five with 1:57 to play [31-26].
The lead was pushed to double digits late in the quarter [37-26].
UAB closed the second quarter with a basket from Monae' Duffy at the buzzer to trail by nine [37-28].
The Blazers came out of halftime aggressive, trimming the deficit to six with baskets from Carter and Munoz [39-33].
Florida Atlantic responded with back-to-back scores in the paint to maintain control [43-33].
UAB continued to chip away and cut the margin to five late in the quarter [50-45].
A late FAU three took the Owls to the fourth quarter with an eight-point lead [55-47].
Early in the fourth, FAU extended its lead to 11 of a fast break three and a layup [60-49].
The Blazers answered with strong play to get back with single digits [66-57].
The Owls capitalized at the free throw line and on offensive rebounds to keep separation [69-59].
Despite the late push, UAB wasn't able to close the gap [70-63].
