HOUSTON, Texas – UAB women's basketball (7-10, 0-5 American) dropped 76-56 at Rice (14-3, 4-0 American) on Wednesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Monae' Duffy led the Blazers with 13 points while adding six rebounds. Eleecia Carter and Molly Moffitt each recorded 11 points.

Rice was led by Dominique Ennis with 19 points while Shelby Hayes followed behind with 18 points. Hailey Adams tallied 10 points on the night.

Game Notes

Duffy led UAB with 13 points while adding six rebounds, five of which were defensive.
Samari Taylor had a season high seven points, three rebounds and three made field goals.
The Blazers were 42 percent from the field, beyond the arc and at the free throw line.
Rice was 44 percent in the paint, 40 percent from the three and went 12-for-12 at the line.
UAB matched Rice with 18 points in the third quarter to stay within striking distance.
The Green and Gold scored 28 points in the paint, 18 bench points and 10 points off turnovers.
The Blazers forced 11 Rice turnovers and converted several transition opportunities.
To start the fourth quarter the first minute saw six turnovers, committed by both teams.

How It Happened

Rice jumped to an early lead before a timeout was called [6-0].
The Owls extended its lead with 5:47 remaining in the first quarter [11-0].
UAB went on a 7-0 run to trail by four, fueled by Moffitt, Duffy and Sofia Munoz [11-7].
Moffitt and Carter made back-to-back threes for UAB to close out the frame [18-13].
Munoz cut the deficit to four after a made layup off a turnover [21-17].
Each team went back and forth, and the Blazers got within three with 3:16 left until halftime [29-26].
The Owls scored the next five points to close out the quarter leading by eight [34-26].
UAB came out of halftime aggressive, scoring efficiently and matched Rice with 18 points.
The Green and Gold were able to get within two midway through the quarter [38-36].
Rice answered each run and added some distance from UAB to close the frame [52-44].
The quarter opened with six turnovers with both teams committing turnovers until Carter made a jump shot to start the scoring [52-46].
The Owls answered with a 9-1 run to extend the lead to double digits [61-47].
Rice was able to hold onto its double digit lead the rest of the frame and had its biggest lead of the game [76-55].
Final score: 76-56
