NEW ORLEANS, La. – UAB women's basketball (7-11, 0-6 American) battled Tulane (8-10, 3-3 American) for 40 minutes on Saturday at Devlin Fieldhouse but a late fourth-quarter push by the Green Wave earned them a 73-68 win.

The Blazers had four players score in double figures with Cali Smallwood leading UAB by recording 17 points. Sofia Munoz registered 14 points while Eleecia Carter tallied 11 points. Monae' Duffy came away with 10 points and five rebounds.

Tulane was led by Amira Mabry with 13 points, while Dyllan Hanna recorded 12. Jayda Brown registered 11 points and Kanija Daniel and Shiloh Kimpson each tallied 10 points.

Game Notes

Smallwood led the Blazers with 17 points, knocking down 6-of-10 field goals and was 5-for-9 from three.
Munoz added 14 points and four assists on the afternoon.
Munoz matched her season-high four steals for the fourth time this season.
Carter chipped in 11 points and led the team alongside Journey Armstead with five assists each.
Jordan Rosier matched her season-best three assists.
UAB shot 45 percent from the field, 33 percent from the three and 67 percent at the line.
Tulane was 41 percent from the field, 33 percent from the long range and 75 percent at the free throw line.
The Blazers scored 22 points in the paint, 16 points off turnovers, 16 bench points, and 11 points off fast breaks.
The game featured 18 lead changes and eight tied scores.

How It Happened

Tulane scored early on second chance opportunities and free throws, jumping out to a quick lead [5-0].
UAB answered behind interior and outside shooting to lead, with Smallwood, Munoz and Duffy knocking shots [9-8].
The Blazers briefly took the lead again midway through the quarter [12-10].
The Green Wave was able to edge out the Green and Gold off a pair of free throws to close the quarter [18-17].
UAB caught fire from deep, shooting 5-for-8 from three in the second quarter.
Back-to-back triples by Smallwood sparked a Blazers run that gave UAB the lead [32-28].
Munoz gave UAB its largest lead of the game off a fast break from a turnover [40-34].
UAB outscored Tulane 23-20 which carried a Blazer lead heading into halftime [40-38].
The teams traded baskets almost every possession, with neither side pulling away [UAB 46-45].
UAB leaned on interior scoring from Duffy and Armstead to answer Tulane runs and lead by one [53-52].
Six lead changes highlighted the back-and-forth nature of the third, but the Green and Gold edged out the Green Wave heading into the fourth [58-57].
UAB opened the fourth quarter with a scoring burst to continue its lead [68-64].
The Green Wave were able to answer back with a three to regain the lead [69-68].
Tulane capitalized at the free-throw line to lead by three with 47 seconds left [71-68].
The Green Wave closed on a 9-0 run to seal the 73-68 win.
