BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team opens the 2025-26 season this Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Argent Financial Classic. The three-day tournament is hosted by Louisiana Tech at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.
Second year head coach Charlie Hoyle will field a team featuring three new Blazers and two returners. Mississippi State transfer Alejandro Fierro and Tarleton State transfer Alvero Huidobro lead UAB at the top of the lineup, while sophomore Jonathan Ericsson plays third and looks to build off a solid freshman year. USC Aiken transfer Erik Olin and junior Morgan Slaton round out the UAB lineup.
The Blazers are one of 17 teams in the field and will go up against Houston, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Tennessee, Nicholls, North Texas, Rice, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, ULM, UTSA and WKU.
The field will play 18 holes each day. The course is a par 72 which plays 7,105 yards. UAB tees off on Sunday at 11:50 a.m. and is paired with Middle Tennessee and North Texas in round one.
UAB is very familiar with this tournament, having won it three out of the five times the Blazers have participated. UAB took the trophy in 2018, 2020 and most recently in 2023. Additionally, the Blazers have had two individual champions at this event (William Walker III in 2018, Nick Robillard in 2020).
