Blazers Win Firehawk Invitational

OAKVILLE, AL - The UAB Cross Country team won the Firehawk Invitational on Saturday at the Indian Mounds State Park in Danville. The Blazers scored 35 points and had four runners finish in the top 10 overall.
The leader of the four was junior Lidia Longo who was the overall champion of the women's 6k race finishing in 22:00. Katie Keur finished third with a time of 22:12. Savannah Meyer (9th) and Kaitlyn Wende (10th) finished in 22:47 and 22:48 respectively, while Lia Castillo placed 12th with a time of 22:54 to round out the top five finishers for the Green and Gold.
Kenlie Nelson, Kyra Hayes, Emma Kate Alexander, and Ava Brooks each finished in the top 20.
Overall, Longo, Wende, and Brooks each set their personal bests.
The Blazers return to action on October 4 as they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to participate in the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas. The women's race is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
