Five Blazers Set Personal Bests at Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Two Blazers placed in the top 50 to fuel the Green and Gold to a top 10 team finish out of 29 teams at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday. Sangie Lincoln-Velez placed 20th with a time of 17:22 and Lidia Longo placed 43rd coming in at 17:42.
Lincoln-Velez's time on Saturday marks the 6th-fastest 5k time in school history.
Lia Castillo broke the 18-minute mark with her 52nd place finish coming in at 17:56. Kaitlyn Wende (76th) and Kenlie Nelson (79th) rounded out the top five finishers for UAB.
Lincoln-Velez (91 seconds), Wende (41 seconds), Nelson (28 seconds), Castillo (26 seconds), and Longo (18 seconds) all set their personal best 5k times on Saturday.
The Blazers return to the state of Alabama for their final meet of the season before the American Conference Championships. UAB is back in action on Friday, October 17 in Tuscaloosa to compete in the Crimson Classic hosted by the University of Alabama. The women's 6000m race will begin at 9:20 a.m.
