Blazers Open Conference Play at Home Against Rice

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer begins conference play on Thursday, September 11 at home against Rice. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
It's military and first responder appreciation night at PNC Field. Military members and first responders can receive a discounted ticket by showing their valid military and first responder ID.
SERIES HISTORY
Rice leads the all-time series 12-6-1, with the last match being played in Lakewood Ranch, Florida during the conference tournament in 2024. The Owls earned a 2-0 win.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
The Blazers battled to a scoreless draw last Sunday against Belmont. UAB outshot the Bruins 16-6 and Blazer keeper Leah Parsons earned her third shutout of the season and collected an honorable mention recognition this week from the American.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Rice defeated Lamar 2-0 last Sunday for their fifth win of the season. Leah Chancey scored both goals during the game and leads the team with five goals.
GOAL SCORERS
Freshman Rebecca Sierra scored her first collegiate goal against UCF on August 14. Sophomore Mia Leath scored against ETSU on August 17, making it her second career goal. Junior Ava Mills found the back of the net at Ole Miss on August 21, which was her first career goal. On August 24 against ULM, Avery Berryman and Jette Zimmer scored two goals each while Lailah Stewart earned her first goal of the season off a penalty kick.
Berryman scored her third goal of the season with an assist from Zimmer against Southern Miss on August 31. Zimmer also scored her third goal of the year by a well-placed ball from Caitlin Keeling versus USM. Lola Sommer earned her first goal of the season with an assist by Berryman against the Golden Eagles and her second goal of the year against Western Kentucky. Abbey Burns found Lauren Lucero for her first goal of the year, followed by senior Brielle Rochester scoring her first career goal with an assist from Zimmer.
RETURNING PRODUCTION
The Blazers top three goal scores from last season have all returned. Abbey Burns who led the team with seven goals, Jette Zimmer scored four and Sydney Bolinger who had two. Other players that are back on this year's squad that scored one goal are Maia Sirota, Mia Leath, Lola Sommer and Abby Graeser. In total, UAB has 16 letterwinners returning for the season.
