BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Department of Athletics has announced that Steve and Katrina DeMedicis have made a commitment of one million dollars in support of the Bartow Arena renovation project.
"UAB basketball and football are like the front porch of the University and bring a lot of national attention to Birmingham and UAB," Steve DeMedicis said. "I support UAB Athletics because Birmingham is my hometown and what is good for UAB is good for Birmingham."
Steve is a Birmingham innovator, car repossession man, real estate investor, and retired past President of Red Mountain Technologies. As a former student-athlete on the University of Alabama's track and field team, his love of college athletics is deeply rooted. Steve and Katrina DeMedicis made a generous commitment towards the return of UAB Football along with a lead gift towards UAB's track and field facility that helped make the on-campus facility possible. Long-time supporters of UAB Athletics, the DeMedicis family are proud members of the Champion Club and season ticket holders for football and men's basketball.
"Steve and Kat have been incredibly supportive of UAB Athletics and continue to step up on behalf of our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "They stepped up to help make the return of UAB Football, Bowling and Rifle possible. They made the lead gift towards our first-class track and field venue, and now they've made another gift, this time towards the Bartow Arena renovation project…just another example of how much they love UAB and Birmingham."
The $14.6 million Bartow Arena renovation project is intended to feature four main components:
Pending UAB Athletics reaching fundraising goals and additional UA System Board of Trustee approvals, the project is anticipated to break ground following the completion of UAB's Spring 2026 Commencement ceremonies.
