Conference Championship Journey Starts Wednesday Against Memphis

TAMPA – The UAB Softball team (24-30, 10-17) will play a first-round matchup against Memphis (30-26, 17-10) on May 7th at 1:00 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB was swept by Charlotte last weekend making the Blazers a seven seed in the AAC Tournament. UAB has four wins in its last eight attempts with a big series win over East Carolina. Memphis came off a series loss to Wichita State, but did get the game one win 4-3. Before that the Tigers lost three games against RV Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. Memphis lost 14 straight games before that win against Wichita State.
BETWEEN THE LINES
The journey through the AAC tournament starts in round one with seeds 7-10 playing in the first round on Wednesday. The winners of the first two games will play again on Wednesday night with the winners of those games moving on to the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Ashlyn Shirah is coming into the tournament hot, going three for three on Sunday against Charlotte. She went five for eight over the series with two RBI and a double. Lindsey Smith also had a good weekend hitting two home runs and batting .400 over three games.
MILESTONES
Hannah Miles got her 100th career hit at North Texas a few weeks ago. Lindsey Smith moved into second all-time in UAB history for career doubles (40). Bella Wiggins hit her 14th career triple and is now first all-time in UAB Softball history. Wiggins is eight hits away from 200 career hits and Hannah Dorsett is one away from 100 career hits.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. ET, while live statistics can be found here. All games are in central time.
If UAB wins the game, they would go on to play East Carolina in the quarterfinals on May 7th at 7:00 p.m.

The Blazers hold a 23-9 record against Memphis dating back to the first ever contest in 2006. UAB has not lost a series against Memphis since 2007 and has won 13 out of the last 14 games. UAB beat Memphis two out of three back in March winning games two and three.
