Softball Travels to North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC – The UAB Softball team (24-27, 10-14) is headed to North Carolina for their final conference series of the year against Charlotte (27-26, 14-10).
LAST TIME OUT
UAB won the series against East Carolina, winning games two and three. UAB's Lindsey Smith hit home runs in back-to-back at bats to lift UAB over East Carolina 5-3 on Sunday. Charlotte dropped the series against Wichita State on Sunday 9-6 in Kansas. The 49ers lost game one 7-3 before winning a 13-hit game two, 10-8.
BETWEEN THE LINES
This will be a vital series in the AAC standings with UAB is currently in seventh place in the AAC standings, while Charlotte sits in fifth place four games ahead of UAB. The Blazers have won four out of their last five, also beating West Georgia in a midweek matchup. UAB is fighting for the six seed in the tournament with the No. 7-10 seeds having to play a first-round game on Wednesday morning in the AAC Championships. The No. 5-6 seeds are propelled into the second round and will not play until Wednesday night. The No. 3-4 seeds have a bye until the quarterfinals while the No. 1-2 seeds have a bye to the semifinals.
Charlotte has played 11 Power Four opponents including the No. 7 ranked LSU Tigers at the beginning of the season. Charlotte can secure the No. 3-5 seeds sitting two games behind North Texas and one game ahead of Wichita State. The 49ers are ninth in the AAC in double plays with just 13 and they are third in the conference in home runs with 56.
MILESTONES
Hannah Miles got her 100th career hit at North Texas last weekend. Lindsey Smith moved into second all-time in UAB history for career doubles (40). Bella Wiggins hit her 14th career triple and is now first all-time in UAB Softball history. Wiggins is nine hits away from 200 career hits and Hannah Dorsett is three away from 100 career hits.

QUICK NOTES
UAB currently holds a 25-13 record against Charlotte, but have not won a game in the last four attempts. Charlotte has won six out of the last seven games dating back to 2022. The Blazers won the first eight games of the series from 2000-02. Charlotte outscored UAB 16-2 in the three-game series last spring.
