UAB Goes 2-0 on Final Day of Chanticleer Challenge

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team had a perfect 2-0 record on the final day of the Chanticleer Challenge. The Blazers finished the weekend at 3-1 overall.

UAB opened the day with a straight set sweep over Division III institution Lynchburg, then followed that up with a 4-1 win over UNC Wilmington. UAB is now 14-10 overall this season.

While in Myrtle Beach, the top three teams in UAB, Coastal Carolina and UNC Wilmington all went 1-1 against each other with UAB defeating UNC Wilmington, Coastal Carolina defeating UAB, and UNC Wilmington defeating Coastal Carolina.

Head Coach Delaney Clesen made some adjustments to the lineup which paid off as Sarah Smith was inserted into Court 5 and won both her matches, while Claudia Stockard and Olivia Chychrun paired together for the first time this year and also went 2-0.

UAB's Court 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant defeated UNCW in three sets and improved their season record to 19-5 overall on Court 1. Klea Sirois and Lauren Cairo also won both of their matches and they are now 10-2 together this season. Sirois shares a team-best overall record of 19-5 with Stant and Haas.

The Blazers return to action next weekend at home for the Blazer Beach Bash on Friday and Saturday, April 11-12.
